VirtualVTR Pro Preferences - GPIs, Overlays, beeps etc

This page is a comprehensive description of what each specific preference in VirtualVTR and VirtualVTR Pro will do. It does not offer overall guidance on particular setups.

These parameters and functions are ONLY available in the VirtualVTR 'PRO' version of the software. Owners of the standard VirtualVTR software can order an upgrade to these facilities from Gallery.

Superimpose Graphics On Picture
VirtualVTR Pro adds many additional capabilities to VirtualVTR, aimed at specialist markets such as Foley and ADR recording. One of the major architectural additions is a mode which can superimpost graphics on top of the QuickTime pictures as they are played. This is done by intercepting the data as QuickTime reads it from disk, and rendering it into an intermediate Video color space as uncompressed RGB or YUV data. The desired graphics are then applied over the top, and the finished frame is passed to the Video output device in use.Because of the nature of this process, it is only supported with Video cards that allow output of uncompressed data. Otherwise the video frame would need to then be recompressed in software before it was output through the card (which might be too slow). This all happens in real time during a single video frame, and consequently a fast, dual processor G4 or G5 CPU is specified for these applications. The overlays available include timecode burns, Feet+Frame burns, free text burns, traditional wipe style Video streamers, 3,2,1 count down punches, German style running cursors, and more. The software also includes the event sequencer to make sure that the right burn appears at exactly the right time, all without rendering any video. Everything is user configurable as detailed in the 'Overlay Preferences Dialog'

Enable GPI Event Sequencer
The other major addition in VirtualVTR Pro, is a GPI event sequencer and beep generator. These are anchored around a sync point you mark in the timeline, and allow comprehensive studio control for foley and ADR recording. Everything is user configurable as detailed in the 'GPI Beep Preferences Dialog'

Note that any changes made in the Overlay settings are typically not reflected until the movie is closed, and re-opened.
