PictureReady Japanese HD Sports
JAPANESE BROADCASTERS FORGE AHEAD WITH GALLERY'S PICTUREREADY SYSTEM
CYCLING, BASEBALL, TURIN OLYMPICS AND BEYOND......

Gallery's PictureReady System, incorporating AJA Kona, Final Cut Pro and XSan for HD, has been hard at work in Japan delivering HD coverage of various sporting events and is also hard at work with various broadcasters at the Torino Winter Olympics 2006.

17 seats of Gallery's PictureReady QuickTime capture system, supplied thru a Tokyo-based systems integrator are being used as part of an extremely modern QuickTime based end to end workflow. The PictureReady systems are used for real time capture from 1080/60i HiDef picture into DVCProHD format quicktime movies. Unlike regular QuickTime captures, these movies are instantly available to the Final Cut edit suites as soon as the recording starts, automatically growing inside Final Cut as the recording proceeds, allowing Final Cut to be used in real time to cut highlights packages during sporting events.

The PictureReady software is running on Apple G5 computers with AJA Kona2 video capture hardware, connected to Apple XSan shared fibre channel storage. Additional G5 systems with Final Cut Pro edit the quicktime native media directly from the San with no copying or media conversion required.

PictureReady has previously enabled similar real time sports workflows in Standard Definition, including the Tour De France for ITV UK,
Japanese Baseball tournaments for ABC (Asahi Broadcasting Corporation)
and the Roland Garros French Open for Sporever in Paris.
